Family News Tina writes " Dad and I drove over on Saturday, May 11th to visit all the family in Miami. The week before Paul,Gloria and the grandkids went on a Disney Cruise with Gloria's family and close friends. It was fun seeing all the cruise pics as well as Paul's unbelievable close encounter video of a green sea turtle! I could not believe how long he stayed with this sea turtle!
Dan ended up driving over to Miami to join us when his overtime work was cancelled and on Mother's Day I was with 2 of my 3 sons. Not to forget, Dave called me and we had a nice chat. We had a great time at the Armand's on Mother's Day celebrating with a cookout. It was a hot day - yes the summer heat had arrived- but then that means summer vacation is just around the corner!!

Family News Tina writes " From the lack of entries ( since December) one would think I had not one interesting or fun event to discuss or I was just too busy ( a lame excuse). So, on this beautiful Cinco de Mayo day, relaxing by my lovely butterfly garden, I will finally
January 1st rolled in quietly and for most of the month it was mid 80's and definitely not sweater days. Great for snowbirds but not for me- grumble, grumble.
Katie's wedding shower was a fun-filled event on January 13th. It was a beautiful day and Yoyi as always outdid herself. The guests loved the 50's Housewife Theme-
the 50's magazine illustrations posted on the white door were hilarious as so our comments we posted! On a different note Yoyi displayed a variety of photos of family members depicting special events and weddings that took place decades ago in Cuba. It was so heartwarming sharing the family history.... And then there was the pink stove on display ! In all my life I never knew that pink ovens existed!
February 2nd arrived and Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, which means an early spring. Well that groundhog got it wrong. Winter kicked in to gear and not just in Florida. My spring break in late March had daily lows of the upper 40's! And just 4 days ago on May 1st Denver got several inches of snow! On February 16th we celebrated Karen's birthday, our wonderful neighbor across the street, with her friends and family. We had lots of fun and stories to share... The first part of March Karen and I took a sewing class to learn how to sew with knit fabrics. I want to teach Alexa one day how to sew. Her Dad when he was
a small boy learned to do cross stitch and needlepoint!
Katie and Eddy's wedding day arrived on March 16th. Just like Paul and Gloria as well as Dave and Lori's wedding days you could not ask for a prettier day. Katie was beautiful beyond words and indeed one could not find a more beautiful or handsome wedding party! Alexa , our beautiful princess and Paul Andrew our handsome prince were unforgettable in their wedding finery..... The reception was a spectacular event celebrating the marriage of a very special couple we dearly love-Katie and Eddy.
On April 20th Gene and I did our Earth Day participation at Estero High which we have done for many years. The native plants are flourishing that my students and I planted over a decade ago but there are still problem plants we have to
keep under control. On April 26th we watched the EverBlades play ice hockey- it has been many years since we watched them play but unfortunately they lost in overtime.
I have to mention Gene got a great deal on a ton of flowers and so we went crazy planting them all over the yard. It definitely looks like spring has sprung here in our yard! I also have quite a few tomato plants started by seed back in February- time will tell if I have a green thumb like Gene.....

Family News Tina writes " Thanksgiving arrived with plenty of cold weather. Gloria,Paul, and grandkids (myself included) dressed in long sleeves and sweaters for visits to the park and late night Christmas shopping. All the baking did not heat up the house with 45 degree nights for 3 nights! Late Saturday afternoon we all watched the Gators chomp on the Noles with a 37-26 win. There is only one Gator football game each season that I cheer (quietly) for their opposition . When they play FSU I feel the need to support the Seminoles. Fond memories of Dave and those 75 trumpets are unforgettable....
Fast forward and suddenly it was tree decorating, more shopping, more Christmas decorating and then the arrival of Lori and Dave from Colorado and Gloria,Paul,Alexa, and Paul Andrew from Miami. We enjoyed Monsters,Inc. at the movies with the grandkids and visited Flesher's Farm Christmas light display. Alexa and Paul Andrew opened their Christmas gifts from Dave and Lori and enjoyed the Jump-O-Lene " indoor trampoline". Mary and Charlie joined us for dinner on December 23rd and her homemade cheesecake and Karen's chocolate cake were a hit! Our friend Karen across the street arrived for the winter from Chevy Chase, Maryland just over a week ago.
Everyone headed out of Estero by December 24th and then we packed and made our way to Miami on Christmas Eve. We enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner at the Armand's, Gene always looks forward to Yoyi's delicious Christmas ham dinner. Christmas morning Alexa and Paul Andrew awoke to find Santa had delivered just what they asked for! And sure enough he even left more presents at Ba and Booe's. Christmas Day spent with family is always the best present of all! On the 26th we drove up to Ft. Lauderdale and visited with my cousin Mary and her family. Alexa and Paul Andrew got to meet their cousins and Justin's and Mariana's new baby Jacob. I am so thankful for family and all the wonderful memories and times spent together......

Is it Fall Yet?

Events Stuff Tina writes " My oh my it is now November 4th! A sweet sounding storm named Tropical
Storm Sandy gave us wonderful autumn breezes last weekend in Florida, but the massive storm was an unwelcome visitor to the Jersey shore and New York City. Yes, it is fall here in Florida AND yes it is still hurricane season !!
The weekend after Labor Day Paul, Gloria, and the grandkids came over for a beach getaway. We stayed at the Hilton Edgewater Hotel in Naples which offers great gulf front views from their suites. Alexa and Paul Andrew enjoyed playing in the sand with their Dad and Uncle Dan assisting in castle construction. Alexa was transformed into a mermaid by covering her with sand and shell decor. I brought a Strawberry Shortcake kite for flying that was not very cooperative - got to make the kite we used to build at Wright Brothers National Memorial for our next kite flying attempt. Alexa did venture into the gulf but was a bit apprehensive remembering the stings she got back in July in Sarasota. We now have a lotion that is supposed to protect the skin if we have more of these episodes ....
On September 29th Gene and I flew to Manchester, New Hampshire for a weeklong visit. The leaves were stunning this year and we found so many new places to visit. The Mount Washington visit was my turn to drive up a steep and basically barrier free road that is not as intense as Pikes Peak but enough for me at the wheel. My dear husband and I hiked up to Lonesome Lake in Franconia Notch which was our most strenuous hike ever attempted. Strewn with rocks and a steep incline we amazed ourselves how well our legs endured the climb! We drove to the Lake Region and Seacoast of New Hampshire (which is only 18 miles)
on our way back to Manchester the end of our visit.
The weekend before Halloween we headed over to Miami bringing an aquarium and stand for Alexa and Paul Andrew. Alexa and Paul Andrew set up their new tank with our assistance and on Sunday we went to a pet store and Alexa picked out two cute fantail goldfish she named Isabella and Phineas . The rest of the weekend we spent much of the time outdoors enjoying the wonderful weather and enjoyed breakfast and dinner with the Armands and the abuelos.
Yesterday, we drove up to Tampa to see Dave and Lori- they were in Florida to attend a wedding but we managed to get together for a few hours. The newlyweds have now been married for a year- does not seem like a year already!!
Speaking of time- Thanksgiving is only 17 days away!!!

Colorado Keeps Calling

Family News Tina writes " It has been a month since we returned from our wonderful visit to Colorado. It is now August 27th and we just had Tropical Storm Isaac pass offshore last night. No school today so here I am at home catching up on some writing. We are having maybe 35 mph gusts and so far not quite 3 inches of rain. Isaac is now heading toward New Orleans or possibly somewhere nearby on the Gulf of Mexico. It is that time of the year....
Colorado had a very hot summer and in two locations huge forest fires went on for weeks. It took a cold front and heavy rains from mother nature to finally stop the massive forest fires just before we flew out on July 12th. We spent the first part of our trip staying in Snowmass with Dave and Lori. We did some hiking and went to Aspen for dinner one night and spotted Melanie Griffith sitting at a nearby table. Now I would have liked to see Antonio Banderas but no such luck...
We had fun on the Alpine Coaster in Glenwood Springs Adventure Park and were
wonderfully entertained by our guide at the Glenwood Caverns. His comedic approach made thie cave tour definitely one of a kind!
Dave and Lori headed back to Denver to go to work and my dear husband and I headed further west down to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. This canyon is not well known like other canyons out west but it literally takes your breathe away as you dare peer over the edge.... We next headed to the the Almont, Crested Butte area and stayed in an 100 year old cabin ( newly remodeled thank heavens) on the Taylor River. Our friend ,Nancy Avalon, joined us for 2 nights and we had a great time hiking, horsebackriding, and fishing. Well Gene found the fish scarce but he gave it his best effort. Too many anglers in one spot? Crested Butte is a wonderful western town nestled among so many majestic 14,000 + mountains . Aspen trees were everywhere- autumn here must be truely awesome!
We spent the last days of our Colorado visit back in Denver with Dave and Lori. It was great seeing their little dog Jack and how well he recovered from his back surgery. Lori planned a girl's day which was lots of fun. Dave took us to the Denver Museum of Natural History - just love those big dinosaurs!! Our Colorado visit was fun-filled, inspiring, magical, and best of all shared with family and friends. No wonder Colorado keeps calling...."
