Family News Tina writes " Alexa and everyone who attended will long remember her " Minnie Mouse" birthday party - it was so much fun!! The bounce house/ slide was a big hit - at the end of the party the " big kids" were sliding down and it was tough deciding who was having more fun! Paul Andrew easily kept up with Alexa- he was like Spiderman as he climbed back up for the next slide down. Dan and I had a blast just trying to videotape all the action.
Alexa and all the little girls were so cute dancing with their Minnie ears and skirt. The surprise visit of Minnie Mouse brought big smiles- these children could not believe their eyes..... Yoyi indeed transformed the Armand homestead into a Minnie Land for a day and it will be one birthday that will be long remembered!"

Spring Break in Shenandoah

Events Stuff Tina writes " The drive to Luray, Virginia from the Richmond Airport was stunning - yellow forsythia, white and pink dogwoods, redbud trees, and green, green grass behind white wooden fences. What a feast for the eyes! After such a cool winter, especially for northern Virginia, the arrival of spring was a beautiful sight to behold.
On this trip we visited Luray Caverns, antiqued shopped in Strasburg, ate at the historic Mimmslyn Inn where Eleanor Roosevelt stayed, and hiked in the Shenandoah National Park. We especially enjoyed the mountain views on the the " Little Stoney Man" Trail and seeing the very tame deer along the park's roadside. The last couple of days my brother Bob drove to Gordonsville just outside of Charlottsville and we stayed in a yurt- a cross between a cabin and a tent at the Bluegreen property Shenandoah Crossing. Throughout our visit the temperatures were above normal-mid to high 80's - except in the higher elevations.A cold front at Gordonsville brought nighttime temps back in the 50's which is normal for April.
It was great visiting with my brother Bob and finally visiting the home of Thomas Jefferson- Monticello. Spring break passed too quickly but I felt reenergized and ready to begin our final 4th quarter of school!"

Easter 2010

Events Stuff Tina writes " The long awaited spring break finally arrived! Thursday, April 1st was a teacher workday and the end of 3rd quarter. Two days later we headed out early for Miami- Gloria, Alexa, Paul Andrew and I had tickets for Disney on Ice! I have not seen a Disney Ice Show in 25 years and this was Paul Andrew's first! We had a wonderful time and both he and Alexa enjoyed the performance!
Later in the afternoon I baked cookies while my dear husband prepared his famous grilled vegetables and eventually the whole dinner! He is the better cook in the family....When Alexa and Paul Andrew got back from the Easter Egg hunt Alexa came rushing in the kitchen ready to decorate the Easter Egg and Easter Bunny shaped cookies. Katie also joined in and her artistic flair made for some really outstanding works of art!
On Easter morning we went to church and Paul Andrew slept on my lap during almost the entire mass. Both he and Alexa are like angels in church ...The weather was beautiful, hovering mostly in the high 70's-low 80's. Afterwards we enjoyed an Easter lunch (Yoyi prepared Gene's favorite -spiral ham). Arturo and Yoyi set up the bounce house for Alexa and Paul Andrew and this gave Artu and Eddy a great workout hoasting up and over those tireless youngsters... It was wonderful getting together over the Easter holiday and spending time together
but we had to get home before dark- time to finish the last bit of packing. Monday morning we had a flight to Virginia and the Skyline Drive!"

Family News Tina writes " Gene and I spent three days in Orlando with Yoyi and Arturo, Cristy, Gloria and Paul, the grandchildren, and Dan in the Tree house Villas in Disney World. Dave and Lori stayed in the nearby Saratoga Springs Resort. We all arrived on Friday - beautiful blue skies and 60's temps greeted us and made the entire visit quite pleasant. During our stay we visited Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, and Epcot over the weekend and on Saturday morning Dan, Dave, Gloria, and Paul ran a 5K Run through Epcot. Cristy ran her 13 miles on Sunday morning - happy to see absolutely beautiful weather instead of the rain and sleet that prevailed in the January half marathon.
The Tree house villa was nestled among the cypress trees and though we saw only squirrels and songbirds it was fun " camping out " in Disney! Paul went all out Saturday night and prepared grilled hot dogs and roasted marshmallows for Smores!
Gene got to ride "Soaring" twice on Sunday and Alexa got to ride it for the first time that day! When the ride started she called out a nervous" whoa" but with reassurance she handled the experience remarkably well for her age.
Of course I have to mention the luncheon with the Disney Princesses in Cinderella's
Castle. The meal was quite delicious and having one princess after another visit our table was a delight for Alexa and the Lords at our table. Yes, our server named Tina Marie consistently titled Arturo and Gene as " my Lord" whenever she spoke to them.
And yes they enjoyed the royal salutation!!! But it was Paul Andrew who got the kiss from Sleeping Beauty! That lad is quite the charmer....

Events Stuff Tina writes " Woke up at 6:45am to feed kitties and checked the temperature outdoors- 38 degrees! Yes, this has been a different winter in Florida. In all my travels in the last five years I have sought cool locations with scenic mountainous terrains. This winter Florida has definitely provided the cool- in fact this past week every state except Hawaii had snow on the ground!
In the afternoon Stephanie and her sister Jessie came over to visit and brought us gifts- a matched pair of Valentine glasses and a lovely Valentine Day card. Tootsie and Simba quickly ran to their kitty sitters and were ready for lots of playing.... After their visit I prepared a roasted turkey breast with all the fixings. I ate very little stuffing- I have been somewhat folllowing the Paleo Diet which does not allow bread - but once in awhile....I have been back on my exercise routine since the school district began free classes at a nearby school. Pool at home too cool for water aerobics.
In the evening we headed over to the Three Oaks Banquet Center for some dancing- the only thing I wanted for Valentine's Day. We danced for two hours-plenty of slow dancing for snuggling between the lively musical selections. It was so love-a lee ......
