Family News Tina writes " We spent 4th of July in Siesta Key and had a wonderful visit with Paul, Paul Andrew, Alexa, Gloria and her family. Several of the grandmothers put together a scavenger hunt which the grandchildren really enjoyed. Unfortunately, jellyfish moved in from offshore thanks to Tropical Storm Debbie which had moved through the area the previous week. Fortunately, the sand which is so wonderful here makes for great sandcastle building and kept the children busy. Many professional sand sculptures also dotted the beach which were truely amazing! My favorite was the octopus. The July 4th fireworks were fantastic and the paper lanterns we saw were so beautiful to watch as they drifted upward into the night sky. What a nice contrast to all the pop, boom, and bang!!!"

Water Weekend

Family News Tina writes " After our return from the Georgia Mountains , Paul brought the family over to Estero for a weekend of "watery" fun! The weather was perfect and not too hot but that would not have been a problem. We were like fish spending most of the time in the pools and lazy river! Alexa got in some practice using her swim mask. When we both went underwater to see each other she gave Grandma the biggest smile! The mask did not leak and was a good fit but smiling underwater was a problem :)
On the last day of their visit we took the shuttle boat to the beach and had fun building a sandcastle. We arrived at low tide which allowed Paul Andrew to venture out in the gulf waters. He had so much fun as the gentle waves passed him by and even this Grandma felt sooo relaxed in the calming water . Yes, we had a perfect beach adventure!

Good Times in Georgia

Events Stuff Tina writes " Two weeks ago my dear husband and I were ready for our relaxing escape to the Sweetwater Getaway Cabin on Fightingtown Creek near Blue Ridge, Georgia. One evening back in February I found this cabin on the internet and I immediately knew this was the cabin for us!!
We arrived May 31st and everything was as I hoped. The cabin was well maintained, soooo cozy inside, lots of homey touches, and the porch was a hop, skip, and jump to the creek. Fightingtown Creek is fairly wide at Sweetwater Getaway Cabin and is lively with gentle rapids and a bit of quiet water. But I could still hear the sound of the stream even in our bedroom. My cousin Mary and her husband Mike drove from Charlotte, N.C. to spend a couple of days with us. We enjoyed the Blue Ridge Scenic Train Ride with them and checked out some local restaurants. During the week we visited Vogel's State Park , hiked on the Aska Trail System, made it up to Brasstown Bald , Georgia"s highest mountain at 4,784 ft. They say on a clear day a keen eye can spy the skyscrapers of Atlanta !! We returned to Unocoi State Park for their all you can eat trout dinner. Gene did flyfish several times on Fightingtown Creek but no luck catching anything. Fish or no fish this is still my kind of place to relax.
We did visit the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta before we fly out the evening of June 7th. This is the only aquarium in the U.S.A. that has whale sharks ( 4 of them) as well as the majestic manta ray. This aquarium is defintely one to visit more than once, that is if I can learn to deal with Atlanta's interstate system. Yes, I am truly a country girl more ways than one...."

Alexa's Mermaid Party

Family News Tina writes " We celebrated Alexa's birthday the end of May this year. The anticipated "Mermaid Birthday Party" had to be rescheduled due to Paul's bout with pneumonia at the end of April . He was in the hospital for a good part of a week and afterwards was still in recovery mode. By Saturday of Memorial Weekend he was much improved and as it turned out the skies were clear unlike the original date which was super rainy ! It was hot but the Armand's pool was a perfect temperature. The children had a blast playing in the pool, bouncing in the bounce house, and sliding down the water slide. We were amazed to see Alexa having no fear of being thrown in the pool- as Yoyi has said "anything that involves a swimsuit Alexa is in". Yoyi's creative flair transformed the Armand backyard into a family water park that will be long remembered along with all the smiles, laughter, and giggles of all the little mermaids and mermans."

Alexa and Paul Andrew's Playhouse

Family News Tina writes " A few weeks ago Paul found a fantastic 2 story playhouse, fort, castle(not sure the final official name) that came with snake slide and swingset at Costco. The price was right but there was 6 HUGE boxes and literally hundreds of screws and bolts. And this amazing 2 story playhouse would require two other able bodied helpers deciphering a 100 page instruction manuel. It just so happened we planned to visit for Easter and so after 3 days and about 20 working hours the master builders Paul, Dan, and Dad accomplished the task. And with their big smiles Alexa and Paul Andrew gave the final approval. A job well done by all!!!"
